Presented by the New Music Network
featuring Andrew Ford Willow Songs (world premiere)
The sublime poetic style of Japanese Haiku has inspired composers from around the world to give musical expression to a perfectly formed verse. Halcyon performs a selection of these evocative settings for voice and ensemble. The performance culminates in the world premiere of a new song cycle by composer, writer and broadcaster Andrew Ford on poems by Anglo-American poet Anne Stevenson. Willow Songs is a picture of a woman's life in reverse, from defiant, outrageous maturity to vulnerable girlhood.
